Assistant Miller - Part-Time
Stone House Farm (www.stonehousegrain.com) is a regenerative organic farm that runs a feed mill serving local livestock farmers, millers, bakers, and distillers with the nutrient dense ingredients they need to thrive.
We are seeking an Assistant Miller to join our team. The ideal candidate will share our passion for supplying high quality organic feed and grains to our local community.
Job Description
The Assistant Miller will report to the Lead Miller and work closely with the Feed Store Sales Associate to ensure that customer orders are produced and fulfilled on time and accurately.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Moving Grain:
- Monitor grain levels in bulk ingredient hopper bins and refill as necessary.
- Unload bulk trucks when receiving grain.
- Assist with receiving minerals and storing in hoppers and totes.
- Keeping areas around bins clean and tidy.
Feed Order Fulfillment:
- Support Lead Miller in making and bagging feed
- Stack bags on pallets and wrap to complete order fulfillment.
- Deliver fulfilled orders to the feed warehouse and load customers/freight trucks.
Groundskeeping:
- Mow lawns around farm on a weekly basis during summer months.
- Maintain garden areas as seasonally appropriate.
- Assist win snow removal during winter months.
- Help keep farm facilities clean and orderly.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 50 lb. feed bags on a regular basis.
- Must be able to, or learn to, operate a fork-lift, skid-steer and light-duty tractors.
Our Ideal Candidate is:
- Experienced handling grain on a farm (2+ years preferred)
- willing to learn how to run a bagging machine, and to help fulfill customer orders with attention to detail.
- comfortable operating tactors to run grain augurs
- organized, methodical and diligent
- curious, eager to learn, reliable and on-time
- passionate about farming and serving the local community of farmers.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- This is a part-time position; one day a week minimum with the possibility of more
- Compensation starting at $20 per hour, depending on experience.
